Is it possible for you to get hold of a free linux live CD operating system such as Knoppix? If you google Knoppix i'm sure you'll find a website where you can download the disc image for free, then just burn it to a CD. These run straight from the CD and do not save onto your hard drive so it won't harm Vista.
Then, set your laptop to boot from CD first in the BIOS and boot the computer (using the battery) and the laptop will load Knoppix instead of Vista (but from the CD.) If it fails to do this, this hints to me a hardware problem to do with the laptop/ battery. If it runs it OK, then it could be a software fault with Vista (though this is unlikely)- perhaps you should check your power management settings in control pannel? _________________ Every time an angel cries, Internet Explorer has crashed and died.
